The best day of the week to get a deal

Savvy shoppers know that in order to get the best bargain, it is all about getting the timing right. But did you know that what day of the week you buy impacts the price too? Here is your guide to the the best days of the week to buy just about anything.

SUNDAY

If you fancy a bit of a boozy brunch, head to Las Iguanas and choose a starter, main and enjoy unlimited prosecco or Brahma beer for £24.95. Two-hour slots are available Sundays 11am-5pm and are by reservation only.

If you are looking to make some extra cash on eBay.co.uk, the best day of the week to wrap up your auction is Sunday. As most people are home relaxing, it is when you will find the heaviest website traffic – and the more browsers you have, the more potential bidders.

The easy ways to do this is to ensure you have your seven-day listing submitted on Sunday evening or make use of the Scheduling tool when listing your auction.

Like to eat out for less with the family? Then head to your local Crown Carvery any Sunday (and bank holiday Mondays) and feed your kids under 10 for just £1.

MONDAY

Restaurants and bars often have generous offers running on Mondays to tempt in diners on what is usually a quiet night – with discounts of 50% or more not uncommon. At Wildwood  for instance, you can save 50% off your food bill all day on Mondays (and Tuesdays too!), just fill in your details to receive your discount code. While you can get your hands on a pizza for a fiver at Strada every Monday, and you don’t even need a voucher as this offer is on going.

If you pop into Yo! Sushi restaurants on a Monday, you can any blue plate from the conveyor belt for only £2.90 per dish. Bear in mind that the offer is not valid on drinks and takeaway orders, or anything not on the Blue Mondays menu.

Go to most Hungry Horse pubs on a Monday and choose any small meal for £1, or any large meal for £1.50 from the kids menu, when an adult dines at full price from the main menu.

TUESDAY

For those of you that are looking to book a flight, Tuesdays are your best bet for a bargain.

According to Skyscanner, not only do most airlines release their last minute weekend deals on Tuesdays, statistics have shown that fares tend to plummet on Tuesday afternoons. This is because airlines tend to start their sales on a Monday evening, and as competitors scrabble to compete, by 3pm on Tuesday fares are at their lowest.

What’s more, figures from consumer group Which? show that jetting off on a Tuesday is more than a third cheaper than a Friday.

Its also the best day of the week to buy a pizza.

With Domino’s Two for Tuesday offer, for instance, all medium and large pizzas are buy one, get one free. Just order over the phone, in-store or from the ‘meal deals’ section of the website on a Tuesday. While Moneysavingexpert.com points out that Pizza Hut offers the same 2-for-1 offer on Tuesdays. Just enter the code AF111E online at Pizza Hut Delivery or quote over the phone or at the counter.

Similarly, enter the code AAPJTFT online for BOGOF pizza at Papa John’s on any Tuesday. You can only get this deal online, however, and small pizzas are excluded.

If you are a film buff, sign up for Meerkat Movies to get 2-for-1 cinema tickets every Tuesday or Wednesday for the entire year.

To qualify you must buy an insurance policy through Comparethemarket.com, but if you buy the cheapest product available simply for the sole purpose of qualifying for the offer – in this case, a one-night travel insurance policy for cover within the UK for as little as £1. Here’s how I did it.

Or if you are a vegetarian or vegan and you fancy a bit of YoSushi, you can pick any green plate from the conveyor belt or order anything on the Green Wednesdays menu and pay only £2.30 per dish. But act quick, this offer is only available over the summer and expires on September 12.

THURSDAY

When it comes to buying a car, weekdays are better than weekends: the fewer people on the lot, the more likely the dealer is willing to make a favourable deal.

The best deals are always found on Black Friday, which this year falls on November 23.

Traditionally, a US phenomenon when people begin their festive shopping the day after Thanksgiving, but a number of UK retailers have followed suit with slashing prices to kickstart the Christmas spending. Ensure you make the most of it and check for bargains on your gift-shopping list.

What’s more, Friday the 13th – which falls in July this year and September and December in 2019 – is the cheapest day to fly, according to the flight booking website Kayak.

But you can still find a good bargain on Fridays during the remainder of the year. For instance, if you are a fan of the Next sale, some of the smaller locations start their discounting on a Friday, a day before the full sale rolls out online and in shops. Head out early to get a head start on the crowds.

SATURDAY

For parents of young movie lovers, why not check out special Odeon Kids, screenings every Saturday and Sunday morning, from just £2.50.
